130 puppies saved from mill in Virginia

About 130 dogs were rescued from a puppy mill in Virginia early this week and more then 980 dogs were rescued from another puppy mill in Carroll County, Va last week. 25 animal organizations throughout the Southeast have taken in the puppies and will have them up for adoption by late this week and early next week. North Shore Animal League has taken in about 132 dogs and is currently caring for them. In a statement by the organization, Devera Lynn stated, “You can tell they’ve never had any human contact before”, but the league say’s their craving the attention and TLC.

The raid occurred after a five-month investigation by the Humane Society of the United States of commercial breeder junior Horton. Horton, the owner of the breeding mill, may face criminal charges of animal cruelty. He will keep 200 of the dogs and acquire proper licensing.  Most of these dogs have spent their entire life in cages with two or three other dogs and probably never seen the outside.
